For over a hundred years people in Thailand have used Seasoning Sauce to amp up dishes like stir fries, noodle soups and marinades. It’s made by Golden Mountain and readily available in oriental groceries throughout the world.
Seasoning sauce is made from most of the same ingredients as soy sauce, fermented soy beans and salt. Yet it tastes very different, it is more salty and it is a little sweet.
Instead of MSG, the manufacturers use small amounts of disodium guanylate which is a preservative. The umami flavor aspect is provided by this preservative because it is typically made from dried seaweed or fish.
